Miss Doug - Stella Anning Trio / STAT

Stella Anning; guitar / Claire Cross; bass

Joshua Barber - drums

The infamous cat, known to some as Princess Doug of Fitzroy, began her retirement when she moved in with us. A cat of pure sass, attitude and a general vibe of not giving a s***, Miss Doug was definitely no longer a Princess, but more like an old hag, with a strong smokers meow. She had a great strut and was surprisingly friendly, but you had to earn her respect. Rest in Power, Doug.

Stella Anning Trio - STAT (2022)

Hypnotising Melbourne guitar, bass and drum trio the Stella Anning Trio, reveal this chapter of contemplative compositions inspired by all things guitar. The EP is a glimpse of Stella’s life and musical diversity - from a comedic jazz bop about Stella’s cat, to an introspective rock-ballad about her newborn baby, STAT will take you on an instrumental journey through bluesy grooves with the freedom and improvisation of jazz. Joining Stella are acclaimed musicians Joshua Barber (Kerryn Fields, The Counterfeit) on drums and Claire Cross (Oh Pep!, Danika) on bass, to form this transformative instrumental trio that will surely get you betrothed and bewildered.

“For me, the sign of a truly great guitarist is the tone from the fingers that’s so honest and unique, you know who it is from the very first note. Without hiding behind tricky production or being muddied by effects, Stella boldly let’s her playing speak for itself on this EP and proves she is well on her way to being one of those greats” - Lloyd Spiegel

Stella Skinner Quartet - Paper Planes (2008)
Stella Skinner Quartet performs music written by the guitarist, Stella. Her group combines the talents of Sam Keevers (piano) and Tony Floyd (drums) with another emerging young talent, Alex Yeap (acoustic bass). The youthful jazz lines of Skinner, with Keevers' accompaniment are a great mix. The compositions are very lyrical and harmonically rich, developing into great improvisational adventures. The quartet's album also features Cellist Imogin Manins on one of Skinner’s compositions. Manins' unique voice and ensemble work provide additional color to the groups sound that culminates into a joyous and satisfying musical experience.
